Warranty

Electromaax has a full 12 month limited warranty on ALL its enhanced Clark pumps. Other companies can charge more than $1,600.00 U.S.D for a rebuilt older Clark pump (under warranty more if out of warranty) and as high as $3,900.00 plus tax and shipping for a new one.

If properly maintained most Clark pump intensifiers will last decades, however sometimes though various circumstances beyond the owners control, they may need rebuilding. Electromaax now offers a 9 year extension for just $887.00 USD plus shipping both ways. This warranty extension is a type of insurance against forgetting to flush when left for months or years.

Membrane Maintenance

To maximize the lifespan and performance of your Watermaker membranes, the best practice is regular use. Freshwater flushing, frequently or automatically, can be set for 3, 6 or 9 days . Proper Pre-filtration filters: Use only high quality 5 micron 10” by 2.5” synthetic pleated Sediment Filter Elements; monitor your filter status gauge. And finally, proper preservation during extended periods of inactivity.

Operation and Regular Use

  • Use the system regularly: Watermakers operate best when used frequently, ideally daily or at least once a week. Inactivity promotes bacterial growth and fouling, which can permanently damage the membrane.
  • Avoid contaminated water: Do not operate the Watermaker in silty, oily, or polluted waters (e.g., harbors, marinas). Algae, high sediment content, and oils can quickly clog or ruin the membranes and pre-filters.
  • Monitor performance: Routinely check the system’s operating pressure, feed water pressure, and the salinity (TDS – Total Dissolved Solids) of the product water. A sudden drop in output or an increase in salinity indicates a problem that needs immediate attention.
  • Keep a log: Recording operating hours, flow rates, and water quality values helps you track trends, anticipate maintenance needs, and diagnose issues early.

Flushing and Maintenance

  • Flush with fresh water: After each use, especially before a period of inactivity, flush the system with clean, unchlorinated freshwater to remove salt and prevent mineral buildup or biofouling. Your SolarMaax systems offer an automatic freshwater flush feature for convenience.
  • NEVER use chlorinated water: Chlorine will cause irreparable damage to reverse osmosis membranes. If you use tap water from your vessel’s tanks, ensure it is run through the activated carbon filter first to remove chlorine.
  • Maintain pre-filters: Pre-filters (typically 20-micron followed by 5-micron) are your first line of defense. Check them regularly (weekly with regular use) and replace them as soon as the supply pressure drops or they appear dirty. Do not wash them as this opens the pores and reduces effectiveness.
  • Keep the membranes wet: Membranes must never be allowed to dry out, as this can drastically reduce their service life.
  • Clean chemically when necessary: If performance drops due to organic growth (biofouling) or carbonate deposits, the membranes can be cleaned with manufacturer-approved alkaline or acid solutions.

Long-Term Storage

  • Preserve (“pickle”) the membrane: If the Watermaker will not be used for an extended period (more than a week or two, or a few days in tropical climates), the system should be “pickled” with Memstor™ membrane storage solution to prevent bacterial growth. Always use manufacturer-recommended chemicals to avoid damage and follow their specific instructions for the process.

By following these best practices, a well-maintained membrane can last an average of 5 to 10 years.
